About HDP
Hawkster Damage Productions is a business located in the
Second Life virtual world, specializing in weapons and gadgets. It is made up of multiple locations, each selling a unique set of items. Since not all items may be available at every location, each product on this site specifies the location(s) in which it is available for purchase.
HDP was founded in late 2006 by
Hawkster Westmoreland. The very first location that opened was in the heart of
Dalarna, a snow-covered region that served as the perfect setting for a business of this nature.
In 2007, another HDP location opened in Ohana Isle, a privately-owned island that provided several opportunities for product development and advancement. It was at this time that Hawkster (now known as "the resident pyromaniac") developed the Ohana Isle Volcano show, taking inspiration from the original volcano show available at the Mirage in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Ohana Isle Volcano show was set to activate every hour for approximately two to three minutes, during which time fire, smoke, magma, and fiery boulders would be spit out of the volcano as hot lava flowed down the side of the mountain. It was quite a spectacle to behold, drawing crowds to the island and its marketplace, and the show continued to activate every hour of every day until the island unfortunately closed in 2010.
Now needing a new main location, Hawkster won a land auction in
Chamisak with a bid of L$1400 and set up another store in 2010. From that date, the location has served as the main store area and product development spot. In addition, the Dalarna location continues to function just as it always has and is now a piece of HDP history.
Brand History
Since opening in 2006, the store has gone through several logo and name iterations. The brand uses a cartoon drawing of a pineapple grenade as its unofficial mascot and the phrase "It's all about blowing shit up" (taken as inspiration from the former metal band
Damageplan, a personal favorite of Hawkster's) as its slogan.
2006 - 2008: The store's name remained
Hawkster Damage Productions until around the middle of 2008, developing its most noticeable logos and imagery.
2008 - 2011: The store's name changed to
Hawk Productions during this time period in order to convey a calmer and more peaceful product line to re-direct focus away from the weaponry and violence aspects.
2011 - present: Realizing that peace just doesn't satisfy and isn't faithful to the original spirit of the company, Hawkster changed the name back to
Hawkster Damage Productions once development on weapons and explosives began again.
